Beyonce.
Did.
That.
🍋🍋🍋
LEMONADE.
🍋🍋🍋
A visual album, tea spilling everywhere and so much shade people thought it was Fall, and an actual album released on Tidal? And let’s not forget her one tweet after three years!?!?!?
Lemonade.
She. Did. That.
Let me just say, I love Beyonce and this is simply a long ass description of how I felt about it all. If you want to freak-out with me, read along.
Deep in a field, Beyonce wears a hoodie and we already know this is gonna be phenomenal. All alone, she sings. As though she is hiding from something or someone. Perhaps looking for something or someone herself? Is she hunting?
Pray to catch you whispering. Beautiful aesthetic.
Pray to catch you whispering.
Pray to catch me listening.
Whoever she speaks of (Jay, her Dad, any man…) she hopes they slip on their secrecy, so she does not have to confront him/her but rather have them have to confess it themselves.
What are you hiding? The past and the future merge to meet us here.
Ugh, I love her.
Shortly after this beautiful but short ballad, she is on the edge of a building and throws herself off! Thankfully, she falls into a body of water.
Denial is splayed on the screen.
She speaks of what she has done and tried to do, hoping what she discovered is not true.
Are you cheating on me?
And here comes the wonderful song—“Hold Up”.
An anthem for women who are treated like shit, taken for granted and an all-around great song.
Who knew Beyonce busting car windows and hitting cameras was what we all needed?
Within this song, she’s even more transparent, speaking more of the situation.
They don’t love you like I love you.
And written on a man’s shirt who rides on a quad says, “In Memory of When I Gave a Fuck.” DAMN.
People have made many interpretations of this moment, such as the one below:
(insert photo here)
It could also be inside of her mind, how she handled the situation. Smiling to cameras and the public eye, giving everyone something to enjoy but all while destroying property because of how she felt deep within. It’s all to interpretation, but still beautiful to all.
If this what you truly want.
I can wear her skin…over mine.
Her hair, over mine.
Her hands as gloves.
Her teeth as confetti.
Her scalp, a cap.
Her sternum, my bedazzled cane.
We can pose for a photograph.
All three of us, immortalized.
You and your perfect girl.
Shots of an eerie warehouse or what seems to be an abandoned building are shown as she recites the lines above. Not only dark, but also heart-wrenching to hear these words come out of her mouth. To many—if not all—believe Beyonce to be more than wonderful and amazing. She’s beautiful, talented, smart, and so much more. And to hear her succumb to the mistakes of a man is harsh to hear, for she is not the only woman to have ever felt such a way when betrayed.
Cue the music, “Don’t Hurt Yourself”.
She rocks gorgeous braids, a fur coat and is downright sexy. The music provides a cocky effect, her swagger is irresistible.
And the first words out of her mouth are:
Don’t hurt yourself.
And for emphasis, she says it twice.
Who the fuck do you think I am, you ain’t married to no average bitch boy.
And in the midst of her song, Malcolm X’s voice seeps through as beautiful black women are shown on screen.
“The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman.”
Her visual album is proven to be raw, political and downright emotional. She speaks on the behalf of black women everywhere. And it’s glorious.
She rocks and sways, flipping her braids this way and that. Eventually, she begins to scream the lyrics out all while staring deep and hard into the camera.
This is your final warning. You know I give you life. If you try this shit again. You gon’ lose yo’ wife.
AND SHE THROWS HER RING AT THE CAMERA.
Women are crying, screaming and men are shocked. All hell broke loose.
Soon after this kick-ass song, eerie twinkling music begins to play as she yet again speaks poetry.
So what are you gonna say at my funeral now that you’ve killed me?
Here lies the body of the love of my life, whose heart I broke without a gun to my head. Here lies the mother of my children both living and dead. Rest in peace, my true love, who I took for granted, most bomb pussy, who because of me, sleep evaded. Her shroud is loneliness.
Her God was listening.
Her heaven would be a love without betrayal.
Ashes to ashes…dust to side chicks.
If Beyonce didn’t have your attention, she surely does now. She yet again provides another anthem for women, but this time to empower themselves and take control of their situation. It’s phenomenal. And SERENA WILLIAMS?!
She is with painted women in a bus, singing and jamming to the music.
Tell ‘em boy bye.
Seeing both Beyonce and Serena on a thrown is revitalizing.
Today I regret the night I put that ring on.
Beyonce yet again rocks a lovely look, a crown of braids all alone with a gorgeous spotlight. And beat changes, as if to get your attention.
He only want me when I’m not there,
He better call Becky with the good hair,
He better call Becky with the good hair,
He better call Becky with the good hair.
EXCUSE ME?! WHO IS BECKY?!
Many assume it to be Rachel Roy, while others try to figure out the clues and come up with Rita Ora, Gwyneth Paltrow, and jokingly Ariana Grande.
Shit truly hit the fan with such a comment, Beyonce smiling at the camera all too innocently.
Next is Emptiness.
As she has done so before, she speaks poetry as the scene changes. This time around she talks about sex, worshiping God through it and of the moon being blamed for all too much.
The beat soon drops and we hear a rock-like song, it goes in. But then…we hear The Weeknd, and people on twitter flipped shit. No one expected this. I mean no one.
Covered in red, this song is of lust and empowerment. Men cover their faces as they walk on the street. Beyonce swings a light, a building burns in flames as she walks away in white. This song speaks about doing you and working hard, don’t be afraid to flaunt what you have, you deserve it.
The next song is surprisingly a country song, but Beyonce kills that too!
It speaks of being daddy’s little girl, but all the same he makes her a soldier.
In the song, she speaks of her dad warning her and it’s relatable to many. So many are warned of men like their father’s, when it should not be the case.
My daddy said shoot.

Why do you deny yourself heaven?
Why do you consider yourself undeserving?
Why are you afraid of love? You think it’s not possible for someone like you.
“Love Drought”
Soft, soothing and encouraging. It’s filled with insecurities and weak hope.
If that wasn’t enough, she gives us “Sandcastles”.
She sings of their marriage being that of a sandcastle, being washed away from his infidelity and now they realize all of their promises have been washed away. His to stay faithful, her planning to walk away. Though wanting to walk away, she must see his scars. She must see him heal from his mistakes.
Forward is soft and heavy all at once. It’s short and to the point. After everything, they are moving forward.
I love you more than this job, please don’t work for me.
She wants to be more than just work for the two.
“Freedom”
Freedom is then blaring through the speakers. A glorious song indeed.
With several Black beauties, this is great. A song that will stand across time.
Amandla, Chloe, Halle, Zendaya, Winnie, Quvenzhané, the mother of Mike Brown, the mother of Trayvon and more.
I’m all here for it.
Beyonce visually depicts—#BlackLivesMatter.
After hearing the amazing song, Freedom comes yet another ballad named “All Night”.
Through all of the trials and tribulations. From denial, anger, emptiness and more, Beyonce has chosen to “kiss his crimes” and work through it together. Their love deems true, and she forgives him for all that he has done. We may not forgive Jay, but Beyonce does.
Now that my spiel is over, go watch it if you haven’t.
All in all, I’ve watched it three times and it certainly won’t stop there. It’s amazing and life-changing. The album is on iTunes and Tidal, go listen to it!
